It seems inevitable that Spacey will be fired from House of Cards. And it’s unclear what that means for the upcoming final season of the series. Variety reported that producers are considering killing him off and focusing the last season on Robin Wright’s character. There are also believed to be several House of Cards spinoffs in the works.

But Spacey isn’t just the star of House of Cards. He is also a producer. So it will be hard for Netflix to distance itself from him completely, even if producers do kill off his character.

The recent allegations of sexual harassment by Spacey on the House of Cards set could create even more problems for the company. If the show is canceled, the network would likely have to pay severance packages to any of these employees who are still working on the show.

These employees could sue Netflix for creating a hostile work environment. And the company could be found liable, especially if Netflix knew about the allegation in advance. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, "The employer will be liable for harassment by non-supervisory employees … if it knew, or should have known about the harassment and failed to take prompt and appropriate corrective action."

Of course, Spacey is also facing long-term consequenceS. It’s hard to imagine him getting any on-camera roles for a long time. No one will want to hire him or work with him, especially after reading the details of his encounter with Anthony Rapp. Rapp, a former Broadway star who currently appears on Star Trek: Discovery, opened up the Spacey floodgates by revealing that the actor came on to him at a party in 1986, when Spacey was 26 and Rapp was just 14.
