Are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moving in together? They may be. But an engagement could be a long way off.
“There won’t be any announcement until at least after Kate has had her baby in April,” a source close to the palace told The Daily Beast. But that doesn't mean they're not serious.
Markle and Harry met last summer and have been dating for 15 months. And insiders say this romance was a long time coming. Harry reportedly crushed on the actress for years.
"He had a crush on [Markle’s 'Suits' character] Rachel Zane two years before he met Meghan and the reason I know is because I was having drinks with one of his friends,” royal expert Katie Nicholl said in a recent TV special. "She told me she’d been on a night out with Prince Harry. He was single at the time, so she said, 'Harry, who’s your ideal girl?' And he said ‘Meghan Markle from 'Suits.'"
So it's no wonder Markle and Harry have gotten serious in a hurry. They made their public debut at the Invictus Games in September, where they spent time with Markle's mom. Doria Radlan reportedly met Harry for the first time late last year.
There was speculation that Markle and Harry were house hunting together. But insiders told E! News that Harry had been looking for a new home before he even met Markle. Still, it sounds like it's just a matter of time before she moves to London to be with her man.
"As soon as the ['Suits'] season wraps, Meghan will be preparing for her move to London," an insider told E! News. "There's a lot that needs to be done but she's had great support from Harry's aides at Kensington Palace, who have helped make the process a little less overwhelming."
"While Meghan may not be wearing a ring or a formal engagement announced, it's fair to say they're as good as engaged now," a source told E! News. "They've spoken about their marriage plans openly with each other and friends and family around them are pretty much thinking about wedding attire already!"
Some insiders think the royal couple could wed next summer. As Nicholl noted to ET, that would give pregnant Kate Middleton plenty of time to lose the baby weight. She is expected to give birth to her third child sometime in April.
"The duchess will have to get her figure back in time for a wedding and Prince William, who we are all assuming will be best man, will need to be available and not thinking about rushing off to a hospital," Nicholl said. "So, I think there will need to be a bit of space between the royal baby being born mid-April and Meghan and Harry tying the knot. This summer is probably going to be the best bet for a royal wedding."
Of course, before Harry and Markle tie the knot, the prince must make sure the actress is ready for life as a royal. And sources say he's doing all he can to prepare her. He even reportedly coached her on how to address Queen Elizabeth.
But some still question Harry's ability to commit. “The signs of seriousness are there — her VF cover, appearing together in public — but there is always room for doubt because he is a serial commitment-phobe,” another source told The Daily Beast. “He is said to be a ‘love addict’ and his parents’ example is far from encouraging.”
