In an emotional interview with Savannah Guthrie, Selena Gomez and her kidney donor, Francia Raisa, will open up for the first time about Gomez's transplant in a segment on Today, scheduled to air Monday and Tuesday.

Gomez, 25, first revealed her transplant in a heartfelt Instagram post in September. The singer and Raisa, 29, were pictured in two hospital beds side by side holding hands. Gomez now credits The Secret Life of the American Teenager actress with saving her life.

When Guthrie asks Gomez about Raisa's amazing act of charity, Gomez tells her: “Because she [saved my life]. That’s it. ... I guess I got to the point where it was really kind of life or death.”

“My kidneys were just done” Gomez explains. “That was it and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life … and she volunteered and did it.”

Two years ago, Gomez told fans about her struggle with the autoimmune disease Lupus. Then, in September, she discussed her transplant.

“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez wrote on Instagram. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you.”

Gomez thanked her doctors and her friend. “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” she said. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”

After breaking up with Justin Bieber and starting a relationship with The Weeknd, Gomez has been more at peace. When Gomez and her new boyfriend made their public debut at the Met Gala in May, they seemed smitten. And things have only gotten better since then.

After getting hurt by Bieber, Gomez seemed hesitant to get serious with anyone. But no longer. "Selena and The Weeknd were very sweet together and mellow," a source told E! News in the spring. "They were really focused on each other and look very serious and in love."
