Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have been super-private about their personal life. So much so that Swift has practically been in hiding. So what gives?
Swift recently debuted her new song, "Look What You Made Me Do." She then premiered the music video at the MTV VMAs Sunday night. It was the latest sign Swift is ready for a return to the spotlight.
"Taylor is very excited about her new album," a source told People. "This has been her life for the past months. She is very excited to share it with her fans. She is also ready to come out of hiding."
Indeed, Swift has made few public appearances since the start of 2017. She made few public appearances and limited her social media posts.
"Taylor made the conscious choice to disappear," a source told People. "She was feeling overexposed and like things were almost spiraling out of control. She’s being low-key and secretive [right now] because it makes her happy."
Swift spent part of that time working on her new album. But it wasn't just her music that kept her in hiding. After her relationships with Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston got scrutinized by fans, she realized it was best to keep her romances out of the public eye.
That's why she's been laying low with her newest boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. She even makes sure to wear disguises during her visits with him so she won't be recognized.
"She got buried in media being on top of her life during the last relationship [with Tom Hiddleston], so she tried everything in her power to not have that happen again," a source told E! News. "She worked very closely with her security team and management to make sure her life going forward was private. All of that madness really affected her."
But so far it hasn't put a dent in her success. Despite mixed reviews "Look What You Made Me Do" set the record for first day Spotify streams with more than 8 million. It also became the most-viewed lyric video on YouTube over a 24-hour period.
